Obituaries - December 22, 2009 - Rev. Tedford Lee Shenefelt
Shenefelt was a chaplain and pastor with the Navy and Veterans Administration for more than 30 years. He began his ministerial career in 1949 in East Pennsylvania Conference and served also in Pennsylvania, New York and Susquehanna conferences before coming to the Baltimore Conference in 1973 as the Protestant Chaplain at the VA Medical Center in Baltimore. He was Chief Chaplain from 1983 until his retirement in 1989.
He had served four years in the U.S. Marine Division in the southwest Pacific during World War II, and as a Navy chaplain aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer during the Korean War.
Following retirement, he volunteered for eight years with the Chaplain Services at Carroll Hospital Center. His interests included playing billiards, bowling and chess.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Alberta C. Kalbach Shenefelt; daughters Pamela K, Vernier of Ijamsville, and Elizabeth Donnelli of Charlotte, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
