Obituaries - August 23, 2010 - Rev. Leroy Stoney Graham

The Rev. Leroy Stoney Graham, 83, died from coronary artery disease in Bowling Green, Ky., Aug. 23, 2010. A memorial service was held Aug. 28 at the Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home in Bowling Green.

Following service with the US Navy during World War II, Graham attended American University in Washington, D.C. He went on to receive his M. Div from Drew Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from Drew University.

He was ordained an Elder in 1953, but spent most of his ministerial career in academia, chaplaincy and pastoral counseling. From 1951 while attending school until 1957, he pastored the United Methodist Church in East Norwich, Long Island, N.Y.  In 1957 he became a professor at Columbia College, and in 1960, he became University Chaplain at American University, and taught in the sociology department.  In 1969, he served as Director of Baltimore Conference Pastoral Counseling Services. He remained in that position until 1983 when he became director of Washington Pastoral Counseling Services. In 1986, he moved to Kentucky and served the Louisville Conference Pastoral Care and Counseling Services until he retired in June, 1991. 

He particularly enjoyed reading histories in his leisure time.

Graham and Patricia Walker Graham married in 1977, blending a family of six children.

Survivors include his wife, his four children, son Roy Graham of San Antonio, Texas; daughters Lynn Carmouche of Houston, Texas; Melanie Driscoll of Baton Rouge, La.; and Jennifer Driscoll of Annapolis; and  four grandchildren.
