Obituaries - August 2, 2013 - Rev. Michael Graham Marsh
The Rev. Michael Graham Marsh, pastor of Ganotown UMC and a counselor to at-risk youth in Berkeley Springs High School in West Virginia, died Aug. 2, 2013, his 66th birthday. A Celebration of Life service was held Aug. 9 at Arden UMC in Martinsburg, with the Revs. Ray Roberson, Tom Young and Terri Ray Chattin participating.
Michael Graham Marsh was born Aug. 2, 1947, to the late Fred and Ruth Marsh. He was a graduate of Laurel High School in the class of 1965. He received his Doctorate of Psychology from Southern California University for Professional Study, his Masters of Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University, Masters of Reading from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Education from the University of Maryland, and a Bachelors of Arts from the University of Maryland.
He was ordained an Elder in 1983 and served churches from 1981 to 1984 on the Rohrersville Charge including Mount Carmel UMC. He was appointed to Pikeside UMC, 1984-1988; and then Calvary and Mount Zion UMCs. In 1998, he was with the West Virginia Youth Advisory Plan and in September 2008, became the At-risk Youth Counselor at Berkeley Springs High School. Simultaneously he was pastor at the Ganotown UMC.
He was an educator in the Prince Georges County School System and most recently in the Morgan County Public School System. He was currently a counselor at Berkeley Springs High School.
He had a particular gift for affirming people and everyone who met him was better for having known him. He firmly believed that God is good all the time and all the time God is good.
Survivors include his wife Mary A. Marsh; and children, Jason F. Marsh and Carrie Ransom; and a granddaughter. He is also survived by his beloved bulldog, Tubby.
