Rev. Bernard E. Fogle

The Rev. Bernard E. Fogle, 89, a retired Elder, died July 9 in the Wilson Health Care Center at Asbury Village in Gaithersburg. The Rev. George Earle officiated at a memorial service Aug. 8 at Centennial Memorial UMC in Frederick, where he served as pastor emeritus.

Fogle entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and after attending several schools he was sent to the South Pacific where he was stationed in the Dutch East Indies, Leyte Island in the Philippines and then Clark Field. He received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired from the Army Air Force as a flight mechanic and crew chief with the rank of technical sergeant in October 1945.

Fogle was ordained in the Evangelical United Brethren denomination at Otterbein Church in Hagerstown in 1955 and served Third Church. He also served the Fulton Avenue Church in Baltimore, and Siemers Memorial Church in Arbutus. In 1981, he was appointed to Messiah UMC in Glen Burnie, where he remained until he retired in 1987. While at Messiah, he also served Indian Head UMC for a short time.

Survivors include two sisters, Grace Darr of Boulder, Colo., and Hazel M. Beard of Frederick; and a brother Paul E. Fogle of Quincy. Pa.
