Mary Dodge, 89, wife of the Rev. William Wesley Dodge, died July 12. A memorial service was held July 19, at Givens Estates, a retirement community in Asheville,
The Dodges were married in 1941 as he began his ministry. They served at Shenandoah Junction and Ridgeville churches in the 1940s; then he was appointed to Rockville UMC in 1949 and served there until 1957. He was pastor at Hiss UMC from 1957 to 1963 when they moved to Congress Heights. Severna Park followed in 1970, where they remained until his retirement in 1980.
Mary Dodge was an elementary school teacher in her early life. She “was adored by her pupils, to whom she passed her love of singing,” said her obituary in an Asheville newspaper.
She was an active member of First UMC in Waynesboro, N.C., where her smile and loving hugs greeted friends.
Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Dorothy Lee Dodge of Baltimore, and two grandchildren.
