Alan HogleThe Rev. C. Alan Hogle, 82, died from congestive heart failure April 9, 2012, in Branford, Conn. A celebration of his life was held at First Presbyterian Church (USA) in New Haven, May 6.

A graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, Western Reserve University and Hartford Seminary, Hogle spent much of his ministerial career in extension ministry. He pastored St. Matthew’s UMC in Bowie from 1963 to ’66; and helped to integrate McKendree UMC in Washington, D.C., from 1967-69.

For the next 25 years he was “in ministry to the secular world” with the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, where he worked on interstate adoptions. He retired from there in 1991 and in 1993 moved to Florida where he served as visitation minister at a United Church of Christ until he retired in 2000. During that time he was a chaplain for the Florida Alzheimer’s Association in Fort Myers, Fla.

Hogle had a life-long commitment to peace and justice. He worked tirelessly for a world and church of welcome and inclusion, open to all, regardless of race, gender and sexual orientation.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Teddy Joy Couchman Hogle of East Haven, Conn.; their four children: Mark Alan Hogle of Naples, Fla., Heather Jean Hogle of New Haven, Robin Joy Losso, a Presbyterian pastor in Thompson Ridge, N.Y., and Charles Patrick Hogle of Rochester, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Condolences may be sent to his wife: Teddy Hogle, 54 Indian Springs Lane, East Haven, CT 06512.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stony Point Center's art center project, 17 Crickettown Road, Stony Point, New York 10989.
