Vlasta Stadler, 91, the widow of the late Rev. Beno Stadler, died in a nursing home April 3, 2012, in Beaver, W. Va. where she had moved in the past two years. She had lived in Encinita, Calif. for at least 20 years, where she was an active member of the San Dieguito UMC.  She donated her body to the West Virginia School of Medicine.

She was born in Czechoslovakia and after becoming an American citizen in 1956, was a supporter of the American Friends of the Czech Republic.

She and Beno Stadler married in 1942. During World War II, he was a member of the underground in CSR, was arrested by the Gestapo in 1943 and incarcerated in the Buchenwald concentration camp. He survived and was liberated in 1945. He and his wife and two children emigrated to the United States in 1950.

They became active in church work and in 1960, he entered seminary to become a minister. He was ordained in the United Presbyterian Church in 1964 and five years later came to Reisterstown. In 1971, he affiliated with Baltimore Annual Conference and was appointed to Arlington Church in Baltimore. He died in 1972.

After his death, Stadler ran two nursing homes in Baltimore for a number of years. After retiring, she moved to California to be near her daughter, Ilva Garner, who died five years ago.  She then returned to the Baltimore area to be near her son.

Among her interests and hobbies were reading and growing house plants. She loved opera and listened to it frequently.

Survivors are her son, Thomas Stadler and four grandchildren.

Condolences may be sent to him at P.O. Box 91, Stanaford, WV 25927.
