Obituaries - April 21, 2012 - Rev. Donald Lee Mason

Donald MasonThe Rev. Donald Lee Mason, 80, retired clergy member of the Baltimore-Washington Conference, died suddenly April 21, 2012, in Morgantown, W.Va. Services were held April 25 in Grafton, W.Va.

Mason began his ministerial career in 1964 in the Virginia conference. In 1966, he became a member of the Baltimore Conference and was appointed to Bristol. From 1969 to ’72, he was in Cumberland at the Central-Davis Memorial Charge.  In 1973, he was appointed to Glenelg UMC and remained until 1979, when he was appointed to Emanuel UMC in Catonsville where he remained until taking a leave of absence in 1982. He retired in 1985.

He and Patricia Ann Delaney married in 1951 and had five children, who survive.

His daughter, Penny, wrote in a tribute to her father, “ No matter what we thought we were missing in life or needing from another’s we did not have, you showed us what mattered, led by example, and brought us into the lives of people who had so much less but valued their faith and comfort of family above all else. … You taught me to accept the goodness in others rather than to stand in judgment when it was not mine to give.”

Survivors are his wife; daughter Penny Lee Wayson and sons Donald Stephen “Skip” Mason and John David Mason all of Grafton, W. Va.; Rebecca Diane Feeney of Morgantown, W. Va.; and Laura Beth Higdon of Catonsville; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
