DERWOOD ? When the Rev. Lynn Cairns leaves Mill Creek Parish after pastoring the church for 15 years, he'll be serving a new parish ? in Ireland. He and his wife, Dottie, will live for the next two years in Moville on the Inishowem peninsula in northeast County Donegal, where they will minister to two small rural Methodist congregations, he said in a letter to his congregation.
Cairns will be part of a team of four ministers serving eight churches. His responsibilities will include visitation to the elderly and working with a large shelter in a nearby larger city.
'This idea has been brewing in our minds for over 20 years,' Cairns said, 'since I did the first pulpit exchange to Ireland in 1984.'
