Ferrell

SEVERNA PARK ? At its three worship services and a reception June 11, Severna Park UMC recognized the Rev. Lee Ferrell, minister of Christian education and youth for her 30 years of service to the church. Ferrell began as a lay worker in 1976, serving as director of Christian education. She became a diaconal minister in 1983 and was ordained a Deacon in 1997.

Ferrell's main ministry is with youth, and it's not unusual for the Sunday night youth fellowship to have more than 100 young people, including some Jewish youth and others from the community. For the 25th year, Ferrell will lead the youth group on its annual Appalachian Service Project trip June 25.

On Wednesday following the 30th anniversary recognition, the Sandy Springs Bank gave Ferrell an award, as 'Community Champion' in the category of teacher. She was one of eight recipients at a press conference and ceremony held at City Dock in Annapolis June 14. She received a $2,500 check, which she turned over to the Alzheimer's Association.
