News from Across the Conference: Young teens rock for others

Posted by Bwcarchives on

SMITHSBURG ? Garfield UMC's King's Kids, a youth group of 13 members, raised more than $750 for Bibles for Iraqi children in an unusual way. They rocked all night. Not the kind of 'rock' you might expect from early teens, but in old-fashioned grandparent-style rocking chairs, reported Jeannette Kuhn.

Garfield UMC's King's Kids group rocked all night in a rock-a-thon for others.

The teen-agers, who attend schools in six different towns, collected pledges from adults for the hours they would rock, and spent a night, five at a time, in the rocking chairs. They watched movies and played video and board games throughout the night, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. when they enjoyed breakfast provided by the adult leaders.
