 COURTESY OLIVET UMC

The Rev. Mary Jane Coleman leads a
 dedication service at Olivet UMC.

LUSBY ? Washington East District Superintendent Mary Jane Coleman cut the ribbon of the new classroom and office building of Olivet UMC May 22, a few weeks before her retirement.

The dedication service began in the church, then members marched across the street to the Good News Center, as the addition is called, singing ?We are Marching in the Light of God.?

Calvert County Commissioner, Jerry Clark, presented the Rev. Sue Shorb-Sterling with a proclamation during the praise and prayers service. Upon entering the building each person stood against a wall and prayed a prayer of dedication.

The church?s building program took nearly 20 years to move to completion. In 2002, the congregation decided they would not go into debt, and they did not. ?We worked diligently to stay within the budget,? Shorb-Sterling said.
