FALLSTON ? Fallston UMC received the Good Neighbor Community Service award from the County Executive?s office at the Harford County Human Relations Commission last spring. The church also received the 2nd Congressional District?s certificate of recognition from Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger?s office. Both awards were in recognition of the congregation?s dedication to the developmental disability community for over five years, according to Wendy Weyant, co-chair of the missions committee. The congregation also collects backpacks for school children and supports the Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Adopt-a-Family programs. They work throughout the year with the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) in northeastern Maryland. County Executive James Harkins spoke at the event, describing a ?good neighbor.? ?I realized that my church family is either doing or has recently done everything that he mentioned,? Weyant said.
