HYATTSVILLE ? Magdalena Balderas, 15, has been named to the Teen Consultative Group of the Women?s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries. She is one of 17 members and began her two-year assignment July 1. She has already attended one meeting, held in San Francisco, she said.
She is the daughter of the Rev. Miguel Balderas, a pastor at First UMC.
The consultative group evaluates existing components of the United Methodist Women?s programs with young women, advises regarding resource development and sets goals for future work.
'Let us celebrate her participation in this group as both a teen woman and Latina who will undoubtedly represent her conference and ethnic group with commitment and pride,' said Magda E. Morales, a consultant with the board who lives in Germantown.
