Namibian orphans visit 'their' church

Posted by Bwcarchives on

BEL AIR ? In their ongoing ministry with the Children of Zion Village in Namibia, Mt. Zion UMC brought 10 of the orphaned teen-age girls to the United States, accompanied by missionaries Rebecca and Gary Meeks. The orphanage was founded and is supported by Mt. Zion UMC.

Mt. Zion UMC hosted a closing program for them March 2.  They danced, sang and entertained the audience in both English and their native language.

In a moving testimony, one girl shared her story of not remembering her parents because she was orphaned when she was very young. She was taken to the orphanage, which soon became her home. It was where ?Mama Becca? taught her the Bible and about Jesus, she said.

?When you are praying for a child, remember you are doing it for Jesus Christ,? Rebecca Meeks said. She mentioned a long list of prayer needs at the orphanage that included: the health and growth of the children, the staff?s growth in Christian faith, volunteers to supplement the staff, school supplies, a vehicle, construction and maintenance supplies, a boat for river travel,  and financial help.

Orphans may be ?adopted? for sponsorships and volunteers are needed. For information, contact Lisa McLaughlin at
