Posted by Bwcarchives on

WHEATON - Former Hughes UMC member, Mark Masters, 48, a General Board of Global Ministries missionary, died suddenly of a heart attack May 15, while visiting missionaries in Nepal. At the time of his death, he was regional executive for mission personnel in Europe, North Africa, Middle East, and South & Central Asia. His wife, the Rev. Kathleen Masters, was also working at GBGM headquarters in New York.

Masters studied at American University. He and his wife, with their two sons, spent six years (1988-1993) as missionaries in the Solomon Islands. They also served in Uganda and Zambia. He had been at the New York office since 2004.

'He spoke of mission as a combination of spiritual, physical and social services and hoped that this theology was visible in his own life,' said the Rev. R. Randy Day, executive of the international mission board. 'It was.'

A funeral was held at St. Luke?s UMC, the family church in Memphis, where his father was once pastor and he and his wife were married.
