Miss Maryland hosts health fair

Posted by Bwcarchives on

PASADENA - Embracing the slogan, 'Promoting Wellness in Our Community,' Community UMC held its first health fair in late April.

Brittany Lietz, Miss Maryland 2006, from Edgewater, was a featured guest, and presented information on the dangers of excessive tanning. She spoke from experience, having fought skin melanoma before the Miss Maryland competition.

Nearly 150 people stopped by in the two hours the fair was open. They were able to have their blood pressures checked, be screened for cholesterol, receive information on breast, colon and prostate cancers and arthritis, and learn about aquatic therapy, massage and hospice care.

The church also offered healthy food, said Tom Flanagan, Community UMC?s publicity chairman: tuna and egg salad sandwiches, pasta salad, juice and bottled water.
