Marble Mugari, eldest daughter of Bishop Eben Nhiwatiwa, of the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area, died Feb. 11 at Kotwa Hospital near the Nyamapanda border post, in northeastern Zimbabwe.

She died of malaria.

Mugari, 40, is survived by her husband Lazarus and two children, Mike, 11, and Pearce, 4.

At her memorial service, which drew people from throughout Zimbabwe, Mugari was remembered as “a woman of the people.”

Her friends and other relatives nicknamed her “Kamuchacha,” which means someone who is always in a jovial mood or a happy person.

She was buried on Feb. 13 at Mugari Village, Kaitano, Mudzi.

The Baltimore-Washington Conference has a partnership with United Methodists in Zimbabwe. Their communications coordinator, the Rev. Lloyd Nyarota, asks for continued prayers for Bishop Nhiwatiwa and his family.

United Methodists are also invited to continue their ministry to eradicate malaria in Africa by supporting the Nothing but Nets program.

A $10 contribution to this ministry provides an insecticide-treated bed net for a child to prevent the spread of malaria by mosquitoes.
