Living with Alzheimer's, topic at church

Posted by Bwcarchives on

BALTIMORE ? May is Mental Health Month, but Sharp Street Memorial UMC got a head start on observing it. The church held a mental health education program on Alzheimer's Disease April 10.

The event was planned by the church's Health and Welfare Ministries, chaired by Olivia Fearon. About 30 people viewed a video 'Alzheimer's: Care and Support,' which is available in the conference media center.

Tanwa Suma from the Greater Maryland Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association told the group about the 10 warning signs of the debilitating disease and provided tips for communicating with individuals who have Alzheimer's.

For churches interested in planning a similar emphasis, contact Margaret Stanton of the conference Subcommittee on Ministry with Persons with Mental Illness and Their Families at (301) 270-1793 or e-mail her at .
