Library dedicated to late clergyman

Posted by Bwcarchives on

WASHINGTON ? The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence recently honored its founder, the late Rev. Jack Corbett, by naming its library after him. The Coalition was the nation's first national gun control organization and the occasion marked its 30th anniversary.

Corbett, an ordained Elder and a member of Concord-St. Andrews for 37 years, held a number of positions with the Board of Church and Society, the National Council of the United Nations Association and the Pax World Fund and Pax World Foundation, which he also co-founded. He died in 2003.

Mike Beard, a member of Dumbarton UMC, and president of the Coalition, pointed out that one of Corbett's best known books, 'The Prophets on Main Street,' articulated his vision and his life, to take one's faith and make it alive on Main Street.

The dedication and open house held on March 31 inaugurated the new offices of the Coalition and Educational Fund in Suite 301 at 1023 15th St. NW.
