WASHINGTON, D.C. - Called into the service by the beating of an African drum, faculty, students, alumni and friends gathered in Wesley Seminary?s Oxnam Chapel April 17, to share in the retirement of faculty member, the Rev. Diedra Kriewald, a member of Baltimore-Washington Conference.

Kriewald delivered the homily on 'Reflections on the Call,' focusing on the calling of Bezalel (Exodus 31, 35, 40), Queen Esther, and Saphira, the blue dragon in the young adult novel, 'Eragon.' The church must find ways to anoint the artists, such as Bezalel, to have the courage of Esther, and to ride the blue dragon, she said.

Kriewald has been on the faculty at Wesley Seminary for 25 years. 'She?s always given so much more than any job description,' said the Rev. Bruce Birch, dean.
