PARKVILLE ? One of the ways members of Hiss UMC are raising money to send a youth and adult Volunteers in Mission team to Baldwin, La., this summer to help with Hurricane Katrina relief is by selling 'Katrina Relief Bread.' Volunteers make and sell small, home-baked loaves of fruit-and-nut bread after services each Sunday.

SYKESVILLE ? Steven J. Slujtner, a member of St. Paul UMC?s youth group and Boy Scout Troop 883, received his Eagle Scout award in March. For his project, he removed and replaced 75 rotted railroad ties lining the walkways on the church property. In addition to planning the project and organizing the labor, he raised $1,600 from organizations and individuals. Church members, friends and family contributed nearly 400 hours of labor to move and install the railroad ties.
