Helen K. Lauenstein Earl

Helen K. Lauenstein Earl, died July 15, three days before her 86th birthday. She had recurrent kidney cancer and was under hospice care at the home of a daughter in Delaware. The Rev. Perry Miller, retired, officiated at a memorial service in Aug., at Back River UMC, the church in which she grew up.

Earl held many positions at the local, conference, jurisdictional and national levels of The United Methodist Church. She was president of the conference United Methodist Women from 1984-1988 and served on the board of directors of the General Board of Global Ministries.

 

She had a dream to write the history of the UMW, which she fulfilled by making possible the publishing of 'Stir into Flame,' a collection of history and information from several sources.

Her husband, Thomas Earl, died in July 2003.

Survivors include daughter Linda Steen of Ocean View, Del., and Elaine Lisak of Pasadena; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
