Groups to meet at Annual Conference

Each year during the annual conference session, United Methodist groups and caucuses host gatherings with meals for their friends and members.

The meals are held either at Mt. Vernon Place UMC, 900 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., one block from the Renaissance Hotel; or at Asbury UMC, 926 11th Street N.W., 1 1/2 blocks from the hotel.

Friday, May 28
Conference Clergywomen, for the first time in many years, will hold a luncheon meeting at noon at Asbury UMC. All women in ministry are welcome. Cost is $10, payable at the door, but pre-registration is required by May 20. Contact the Rev. Lillian Gieb at her church at (301) 774-7772, or at home at (301) 774-8265.

Christian Educators Fellowship will hold its annual luncheon at noon at Mt. Vernon Place UMC. The program includes a brief business meeting. Cost is $10. Contact Leslie Myers, Oakdale-Emory UMC, (301) 774-4666.

Black Methodists for Church Renewal will meet for lunch at Mt. Vernon Place at noon. The event will include worship and a celebration of the ministry of Bishop Felton Edwin May. Cost is $12, payable at the door. For information, contact the Rev. Hattie Johnson at (301) 928-3624.

Methodist Federation for Social Action, will hold its annual dinner at Mt. Vernon Place UMC, 5:15 to 7 p.m. A clergy delegate and a lay volunteer will offer their reflections on General Conference. Saturday, May 29
Wesley Seminary Graduates Luncheon, for graduates and friends, will be held at Asbury UMC, 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $12. The speaker will be Amy Oden, professor of history of Christianity. For reservations, contact Ann Keeler at graduates@wesley sem.edu or call (202) 885-8632.

Board of Ecumenical and Interreligious Life’s Seeds of Faithfulness dinner, which usually takes place on Saturday evening, will not take place this year. The Bishop’s Award on Ecumenism will be announced during the annual conference session.

A Celebration of Ministry Banquet for Bishop and Mrs. Felton Edwin May will take place at the Renaissance Hotel at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the general public are available on a first-come, first-served basis at $40 per person.
