Greetings from Bishop May And are we yet alive, and see each others face? Glory and thanks to Jesus give for his almighty grace! Charles Wesley We are gathered again in Gods presence to give witness to Gods grace and glory and to the liberating Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God. On behalf of United Methodists throughout this region, I welcome you to the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the Washington Episcopal Area. Welcome to our nations capital, a truly international city, and welcome to the thriving communities that surround our capital in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. May you feel the warm, tender embrace of our hospitality throughout your stay. I am grateful for your presence here and for the blessings that will abound during this week as we strive to be holy and bold in leading and serving all Gods people and especially the people called United Methodist. We have eagerly anticipated your arrival and are prayerfully confident that this week of meetings, special events, visitations and fellowship will be fulfilling in every respect. Phyllis and I pray that God will richly bless our time together. May the Holy Spirit infuse our hearts and minds with new revelations, creative energies and a deeper conviction to faithfully live out our calling. Our gathering here and now could not be more timely. Our church and this nation both face critical, indeed historic, challenges with far-reaching theological and social implications for our lives and communities of people around the globe. In the face of these challenges, we often feel inadequate, anxious, and fearful. We know and profess, however, that God is good and full of astonishing grace and mercy in all times and in all places. We are yet alive to do Gods will in Gods world to the best of our abilities. Thanks be to God! Grace and Peace, +Felton Edwin May |
