'When I see the remnant of Jesus I?m deeply moved,' said Bishop Forrest Stith, as he introduced this year?s recipient of the God?s Foolish One award at the annual Methodist Federation of Social Action luncheon the opening day of annual conference. 'And you are that,' he said to Sandra Ferguson.

The award is presented annually to an unsuspecting person who devotes his or her life to bringing peace and justice to the community and world.

Stith described Ferguson as someone who had worked in social activism throughout her life, first at the community level, and eventually 'all over the world.'

An estimated 80 people, representing many social justice issues, crowded the tables in the Lebanese Taverna Restaurant to hear the Rev. Jennifer Butler, executive director of Faith in Public Life, speak about her ministry that deals with making the media aware of the values of progressive and mainline Christians.

'In the next year or two, we?ll see a shift in the values discussion,' she said. 'We?ll reclaim the values debate in America.'

The group was organized in 2004, to form 'a resource center for justice and the common good.' It is located in Washington, D.C. Visit it at ww.faithinpubliclife.org.

The Rev. Rachel Cornwell, who chairs the local chapter of MFSA, urged members to help rethink and reorganize the local chapter. Contact her with ideas and suggestions at
