Five UMCs worship together

Posted by Bwcarchives on

LOTHIAN ? The observation that Sunday morning worship is the most segregated hour in the country certainly didn?t hold true Oct. 1. Five United Methodist churches in Lothian, black and white, combined forces to celebrate World Communion Sunday. The congregations canceled their regular Sunday morning services and met together at Southern Middle School.

The 450 people in attendance and the 40-member combined choir came from Adams, Union, Wesley Chapel, Mt Zion on Ark Road and Mt. Zion on Bayard Road UMCs.

The new cafeteria at the school, with tiered seating and surrounded by glass 'was a wonderful place to worship,' said the Rev. Ramon McDonald III, pastor of the Bayard Road Mt. Zion UMC, who organized the event.

Annapolis District superintendent, the Rev. Chris Holmes, led the Communion service. A special offering of approximately $3,000 will be used for two community missions ? to help people in need with utility bills this winter, and for assistance to children in the Lothian Elementary School, McDonald said.
