Five UMCs on Baltimore billboard
BALTIMORE ? The HWR-Mt. Washington Parish purchased a billboard on the corner of Falls Road and 36th Street in the heart of Baltimore for the Christmas season. 'It was my goal to have all five churches up there for Christmas,' said the Rev. Robin Johnson, 'better than a liquor bottle!' The five United Methodist churches ? Hampden, Mt. Vernon, Mt. Washington, Aldersgate and Good Shepherd ? chipped in $275 for the purchase.
The Parish received an Igniting Ministries matching grant for Lent and has now replaced the Christmas billboard an appropriate seasonal one, which will stay up until April 27. Both billboards included the names of each sponsoring church.
'I believe the community is beginning to see that the churches in this area are not dead. We all know we need to wake up the community that we are here,' Johnson said.
