Edna Conaway, 79, wife of retired local pastor Edward Conaway, died Jan. 17, at Northwest Hospital in Baltimore. The Rev. Clarence Davis Jr. officiated at her funeral Jan. 22, at St. Luke UMC.

Edna Conaway, 79, wife of retired local pastor Edward Conaway, died Jan. 17, at Northwest Hospital in Baltimore. The Rev. Clarence Davis Jr. officiated at her funeral Jan. 22, at St. Luke UMC.

Pastor Conaway had served as associate at St. Luke until he was called to minister to the Warren-Key’s Chapel Charge in Mt. Airy, which he served from 1990-1997. After retirement he returned to St. Luke, his home church.

Edna Diggs married Edward Conaway in 1950. They had three sons.

She loved cooking, cookbook collecting, shopping, traveling and singing. At St. Luke UMC, where she was active since the 1960s, she sang in the gospel and Senior Choirs, and served on the Steward Board and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee.

She was predeceased by one son, George Conaway Sr., who died in 2004.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 58 years, include Avon Conaway Sr. of Modesto, Calif., and Robert Conaway of Baltimore; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
