WASHINGTON - The Asbury Actors for Christ are about to take their original play, 'The Honorable Josiah Henson,' on the road and invite you to come along.

First staged to much acclaim during the Washington Conference Reunion in Baltimore last fall, the players, all from Asbury UMC, have been invited to Dresden, Ontario, to stage the production at Uncle Tom?s Cabin Historical Site for Emancipation Day celebration Aug. 4, as part of Canada?s 200th anniversary of abolishing slavery. The site is where Josiah Hensen?s church, home and sawmill still stand.

The play tells of Hensen?s struggles from being born a slave in Maryland to living out his life as a free man in Canada.

Dottye Williams, writer, director and producer of the play, is inviting conference United Methodists to join the group for a Canadian Underground Railroad Excursion, Aug. 2-6. In addition to the play performance, the group will visit other Underground Railroad historic sites and museums. For information on the tour, contact Williams at (202) 882-9670 or write Asbury Actors for Christ, P.O. Box 55110, Washington, DC 20040. Reservations must be made by July 15. Passports are required.
