Deacons take 'Steps for Hope'

Posted by Bwcarchives on

ROCKVILLE - Nine Deacons from the Baltimore-Washington Conference were among the 380 who attended the 'Celebration of Diakonia' in Orlando, Fla., April 19-22. The event celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the ordination of the Deacon in full connection and 30 years of diaconal ministry.

Bishops Sally Dyke (who will preach at annual conference) and Gregory Palmer preached. But a highlight of the conference, according to the Rev. Lynn Nulton, was the mission focus, 'Steps for Hope,' which raised $45,000 for Project Tariro (hope), by taking a symbolic walk in solidarity with those who suffer from HIV/AIDS in Mutare, Zimbabwe. The funds will be used to hire a professional medical administrator and provide supplies.

Attending the conference in photo, left to right, were Janet Craswell, probationary deacon; Sue Carns, DFC; Angela Maves, candidate; Doris Worrell, probationary deacon being ordained this year; Judy Birch, DFC; Lynn Nulton, DFC; Rick Buckingham, DFC; Mary Dennis, DFC; and Stella Tay, DFC.
