David Coates - Obituary

David Coates, 55, the husband of the Rev. Mindy Coates, pastor of Mt. Gilead and Patapsco UMCs in Reisterstown, died June 4.

David Coates and Mindy Booher were married in 1978, and had one child.

He held a business education degree from Indiana University in Pennsylvania.

Coates taught business and computer classes at Loch Raven High School and Carroll Community College.

In the 1980s he worked at Maryland Cup Corporation and Noxell Corporation. From 1990 until his death, he worked as a computer programmer analyst at Wells Fargo Mortgage Company.

Coates loved to sing and play the banjo and provided technical support for Ross Nickerson's "The Banjo Encyclopedia." He was a founding member of Four Fun, a barbershop group.

Survivors include his wife; son Justin Coates of Raleigh, N.C.; his parents, Robert and Anita Dudley Coates of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers and a sister.
