Cool collars, a cool item for the troops

Posted by Bwcarchives on

DUNKIRK ? Led by Smithville UMC?s social concerns chairwoman, Barbara Donaldson, members of the congregation prepared 40 boxes of personal care items for troops serving in Iraq.

The kits include 'cool collars,' which members made from strips of camouflage cloth filled with special crystals, to be worn around the neck or inside a helmet. The crystals absorb 400 times their weight in water and provide hours of cooling relief for the soldier, said the Rev. Darryl Zoller who introduced the idea to his church.

The boxes also include lotions, deodorant, paper and stamps, gum, candy, paperback books, non-perishable snacks and many other items.

'We are also enclosing a message of love and prayer support from Smithville UMC,' Zoller said.
