Confirmands have interfaith experience

Posted by Bwcarchives on

SILVER SPRING ? Seven young people from Woodside UMC were part of a group of more than 20 sixth- to eighth-graders from Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths who participated in the Children of Abraham program. Confirmands from St. Paul?s UMC in Kensington also participated.

The youth met monthly on Saturday nights to learn about each other, find common ground and begin to build a better world together as part of their confirmation training, said Marie Matthews, the director of Christian education.

The sessions included dialogue, role-playing games, arts and crafts, and a community service project. In one session all the students wrote their own prayers for peace on a flower pot. They then planted flowers in the pot and swapped them to take home. At home they were to nurture the plant while cultivating someone else?s prayer.
