Community unites for better housing

Posted by Bwcarchives on

LINTHICUM ? A Lutheran church, an Episcopal congregation and Linthicum Heights UMC pooled their creative resources to raise money to build a house for Arundel Habitat for Humanity. It is the first time the three churches cooperated on support for the county's homeless program, though each has raised money separately.

At 'Bid to Build: An Afternoon Extravaganza' nearly $13,000 was raised through admission, an auction and entertainment, held at La Fontaine Bleu restaurant in Glen Burnie Nov. 7.

'Everyone came together in order to provide clean, decent affordable housing for those who are living in substandard housing conditions,' reported the church newsletter. The county Habitat's director of volunteers is a member of Linthicum Heights UMC.

Arundel Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1987 and has built or renovated more than 65 houses in the county.
