Clergyman awarded fellowship

PASADENA ? The Rev. Kirk VanGilder, who left Magothy Church of the Deaf to attend school in 2003, is one of 10 students who has been awarded a Dempster Graduate Fellowship from The United Methodist Church for the 2005-2006 academic year.

The $10,000 award is the largest graduate fellowship offered by a Protestant denomination and is given through the ministerial education fund of the General Board of Higher Education's Division of Ordained Ministry.

VanGilder is a third-year candidate at Boston University, specializing in practical theology, missions and deaf studies.
