BEL AIR - ABC News 20/20 crews attended worship at Mt. Zion UMC Nov. 12. The national news program was there to film a segment about generosity and Mt. Zion?s orphanage in Namibia.

The church had been contacted just the week before that the film crew would be coming. The cameras ran before, during and after the worship service and the church provided lunch for the crew who stayed until 4 p.m.

The film crew talked with people in the parking lot, greeted worshipers and interviewed the Rev. Craig McLaughlin, his wife Lisa and Rebecca Mink, one of the missionaries who started the orphanage and runs it, who happened to be on home leave. Each told the interviewers about the way the church established the Children of Zion orphanage 'from scratch' in Namibia and continue to support it with funds, volunteers and personnel.

The UMConnection told Mt. Zion UMC?s discipleship story in the Aug. 16 edition.

The 20/20 broadcast that included the Mt. Zion segment aired on Nov. 29.

'It was a blessed time,' McLaughlin said. 'We?re looking to see what God will do with it.'
