COLUMBIA ? Many churches responded to UMCOR's call following the Florida hurricanes to assemble flood buckets in response to the disaster. Baltimore-Washington Conference churches were quick to respond. The United Methodist Men, under the leadership of Sherman Harris, collected 581 buckets at the Conference Center and transported them to the disaster preparedness center, in Pennsylvania.

More than 600 health kits were recently delivered to the Pennsylvania center, all contributed by members of conference churches.

Both flood buckets and health kits are still needed and appreciated, but the greatest need at this time, according to Sandra Ferguson, associate council director, is for medicine boxes. The boxes contain 18 essential drugs and medical supplies, seven over-the-counter supplies contributed by churches, who are also asked to contribute $375 to cover the cost of the prescription medicines to be added later.

For specific directions to make the medicine boxes, health kits or flood buckets, see www.gbgm-umc.org/health/medbox/medhome.stm.
