Special to the UMConnection The United Methodist Church is a global church. United Methodists in any pew can reach out and, through the wonders of the connection, touch hearts and lives around the world. By supporting mission and missionaries, we advance the cause of Christ by healing bodies, training minds and changing the lives of people. At last year?s session of the Baltimore-Washington Conference, members approved a measure setting aside Sunday, March 6, (or another Sunday in March) as a day to celebrate mission and encourage each church to hold a Mission Sunday. Last November, a packet was sent to each local church containing a red and white box titled ?Here I Am, Lord 2005.? The box contains, among other things, a devotional gbwc_superusere for holding a Mission Sunday and a 14-minute video. The kits are still available and can be ordered free from United Methodist Communications by calling (888) 346-3862 or online at www.umcgiving.org/store. In 2004, 123 churches in the Baltimore-Washington Conference contributed $225,406 to United Methodist missionaries working around the world. The money supported, among others, Suzanne Porter in Asia, Nan McCurdy and Miguel Mairena in Nicaragua, Ellen and Jeff Hoover in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mark Masters in Zambia and Kathleen Wilson in Alaska.
