Church remembers victims of violence
WASHINGTON - The Rev. Constance Smith of Hughes Memorial UMC led a tribute to community people killed or wounded by violence. The April 22 event, sponsored by the church?s W. Bishop Hospitality Club, included a luncheon and theater production. Among those remembered was a church member who died in the Sept. 11 attacks.
A second part of the remembrance centered on the Hurricane Katrina victims. The Hospitality Club has adopted a New Orleans evacuee family as its ministry this year, and presented a $1,000 check to Yvonne Green for the family, still living in Arizona.
The production included dance, choir, gospel singing, jazz music and a simulated jazz funeral.
