Church plants trees for Earth Day

Posted by Bwcarchives on

In the weeks and day before Earth Day, Linden Linthicum UMC prepared for a community celebration.

The main focus of the event was planting 1,677 flowers, grasses, trees and shrubs along the banks of Linden Linthicum Lane in Clarksville.

For nearly a year the church prepared the project, designed to control soil erosion and its eventual water runoff into the Chesapeake Bay. The planting was funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust, local merchants and the church working with their Environmental Ministry group.

During the Earth Day festivities April 21, dozens of children from the church and community, as well as adults, enjoyed making birdhouses from scrap lumber and making crafts from recycled paper. Others took a nature walk through the nearby wooded area and helped

create a butterfly garden. Local and regional representatives of environmentally-conscious agencies educated on wise use of resources and MOMS, My Organic Market, provided organic popcorn, apples and lemonade.
