Church history recognized

Posted by Bwcarchives on

FALLSTON - Ebenezer UMC is this year?s only winner in the local church history context sponsored by the conference Commission on Archives and History each year.

The church, in Category II, (churches with a membership of 200-500) received the recognition for its 'A History of Ebenezer Church.'

The 23-page history was compiled and written by Ruth Scarff who had originally written it in 1984 for the 200th anniversary of American Methodism (Ebenezer?s 180th). She began the current project in 2004 for the church?s 200th anniversary, and learned of the histories contest while researching original church records at Lovely Lane Museum.

Entries for next year?s contest can be made at any time until March 2007, said Jim Reaves, director of the museum. Contact him for submission forms at

'We require at least four different church entries per class to be judged,' Reaves said. Entries not judged are carried over to the next year, and those that are not 'winners' are kept in the permanent files in the Lovely Lane Museum.
