Church gives "mantles of blessing"

Posted by Bwcarchives on

WILLIAMSPORT - When the call went out from United Methodist Communications in Nashville that they needed about 100 prayer shawls for a special celebration honoring volunteers who helped with Katrina recovery, members of the prayer shawl ministry at Williamsport UMC responded.

The small group of women crocheted 30 shawls they sent to Nashville.

Most of them were made by Clara Pryor, a somewhat housebound octogenarian, who sees the prayer shawl ministry as her personal mission, reported Connie Sanders, who founded the group.

The weekend of Sept. 6-7, Katrina recovery volunteers were wrapped in ?mantles of prayer,? as the shawls were given to hundreds of the more than 63,500 volunteers who have repaired the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast over the past two years, said a UMNS Report.
