Church creates community center
NEW MARKET – New Market UMC is expanding its outreach to the community with the opening of a new center down the street from its building. The center is in a historic building that served first as a segregated school for white children, and later for black students. It was also an antique store.
The church members rebuilt the facility themselves as "a labor of love," said the Rev. Mike Fauconnet. The building was dedicated in January.
