Church charter school receives grant
BALTIMORE -. Baltimore's mayor, Sheila Dixon, made a grant of $117,500 to Northwood-Appold UMC's Community Academy at a ceremony Jan. 27.

The grant is to make improvements to the restrooms and heating and air-conditioning system, said the Rev. Cecil Gray, the academy's founder.

Gray and his wife, Sonya Hunt Gray, vice president of the school's board, attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at Patterson Park Public Charter School, when the mayor made the announcement.

The grant is part of $1 million the city is directing toward improving public school facilities, including independently operated charter schools.
