Church celebrates 160 years
PHOENIX ? Worship on April 30 was a special day for Clynmalira as the congregation celebrated the church?s 160th anniversary. The Rev. Dennis Schulze led the service. Choir members dressed in 1880s fashions.
The name Clynmalira was derived from the English word 'clanmalier,' which means clean air.
The congregation came together for a 'Let?s Reminisce' reception. Artifacts and old photos helped members and friends recall the church?s place in the community over all the years.
Amelia Streett, 96, joined the church 79 years ago. She attended with her children, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 'The church is like my family,' she said. She also helped celebrate the church?s 100th, 125th and 150th anniversaries.
