Church celebrates 100 years
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. ? Williams Memorial UMC, the bigger church on the three-point Shenandoah Junction Charge, celebrated its 100th anniversary May 21.
Among the 125 friends and members who turned out for a dinner and time of reminiscing and sharing that afternoon, were six former pastors: David D. Dawson (1967-71), Royce Chanley (1975-80), Robert Clipp (1980-83), Leon Hevener (1988-91), Mary Kay Totty (1991-96) and Sandra Slazer (1999-2001). They also honored 10 people who have been associated with the church for 50 years.
Combing 1906 and 1907 newspapers, Shirley Kokesh compiled a history of the church that includes biographies of the first five trustees and of Isaac Williams for whom the church was named.
