Christmas in March gifts sought for Isabel relief

Many survivors of last fall's Hurricane Isabel, especially in the hard-hit Baltimore-Harford District, still have critical needs, including tools and materials for rebuilding and repair, cleaning supplies, heating oil, toiletries, paper goods, non-perishable food and small appliances.

Bishop Felton Edwin May is extending the Bishop's Appeal for Hurricane Relief by calling upon churches, groups and individuals to make 'Christmas in March' donations of needed supplies and funds. A list of needed items may be found at www.bwcumc.org. For more information on needs, contact the Rev. Jack Bussard, district disaster response coordinator and pastor of Cowenton UMC in White Marsh, at (410) 335-3343 or by e-mail at .

Monetary contributions to aid the district may be addressed and sent to the Baltimore-Washington Conference Treasurer, at 7178 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, MD 21046. Donations will be recorded and distributed to the district's Disaster Response Fund as noted.

'As we enter the season of Lent and prepare for Easter, we must still rejoice in the birth of Jesus Christ each day of our lives,' said Bishop May. 'I call upon the members and churches of our conference to relive their celebration of God's greatest gift to us by giving generously in that same Christmas spirit to those who still suffer and lack basic needs because of Hurricane Isabel.'
