MYERSVILLE - The once-a-week after school program at Salem UMC has collected $1,000 for Nothing But Nets. The Hero’s Club meets Tuesday afternoons and provides homework help along with Bible Study for about 30 children from the community.

In September, the Hero’s Club children learned about the need for nets to prevent malaria in Africa and set a goal of $1,000 for Nothing But Nets. They met the very ambitious goal, mostly due to penny and dollar donations the children brought, said the Rev. Katie Bishop.

"One little boy brought me a hand full of dimes and said it was the money left over after buying his lunch," Bishop said. "Instead of ice-cream, he wanted to help buy a net for a child in Africa."

Camden Raynor, one of the children, shared that it did not matter that he would never meet the children in Africa. He said, "They are just as important to Jesus as I am. And I am called to help them too."
