Chat and Chew and fix a pew

Posted by Bwcarchives on

INDIAN HEAD ? During their monthly ?chat and chew? breakfast at Metropolitan UMC, 20-27 men gather to discuss how they can meet the needs of the church. On one such occasion the topic of conversation was how to repair the pews in the sanctuary, pews that were well over 30 years old.

It wasn?t long before ?the pew project? was underway with men retired from the building trades leading the way.

Fred Richardson, left, and David Collins along with other men repaired the church pews at Metropolitan UMC in Indian Head.

Within months, 12 men and three women repaired 22 pews at the low cost of $513, all donated.

?I thank God for the men and women of the pew project who continue to use their gifts and graces to the glory of God,? said their pastor, the Rev. George DeFord.
